Care & Maintenance for Acacia Timber

Acacia is an extremely durable wood. It resists water damage and scratching, is close grained, resistant to decay and is easy to care for and clean. Acacia is also unpalatable to insects, making it an ideal timber for building items that need to be long lasting. Getting wet then dry, repeatedly, will draw moisture from the cells of the wood creating cracks over time. You must avoid polishing products that contain silicone as these will also dry out the Acacia wood over time. Detergents or cleaning products that contain ammonia must be avoided as well. If you place Acacia outdoor furniture next to a heat source, then there is a significant risk that warping will occur. When exposed to the elements, the natural light colour of the wood begins to darken. Avoid setting hot dishes or drinks directly onto tables or chairs because the darkening effect can occur underneath the object.

For an alfresco environment, the timber requires Intergrain Exterior Ultra Clear satin finish to be applied on arrival, then maintained as instructed every 6-12 months for longevity and warranty.

For full outdoor exposure, or other environments, please discuss maintenance and after care requirements with our experienced staff to ensure longevity and warranty.

Application of Intergrain

Clean product with warm soapy water and allow to dry prior to any application.
Apply 3 coats of UltraClear Exterior with a quality brush. 4 or more coats will be required in extreme conditions such as full sun exposure, marine environments and in humid areas. Apply along the length of the board including exposed edges and end grain. Do not apply in temperatures above 35°C, below 10°C or if rain or dew is expected within four hours of application.
Conduct a routine 12 monthly maintenance inspection. Note: For extreme conditions, full exposure or marine environments, conduct a 6 monthly maintenance inspection. Best protection of the timber and ease of maintenance is ensured if UltraClear Exterior is recoated before deterioration of the coating and timber underneath occurs. First indication of the need for recoating will be observed as patchiness or thinning of the surface coating on edges and areas where insufficient product has been applied.
To recoat UltraClear Exterior which is in good condition, lightly sand, remove sanding dust and apply one coat of UltraClear Exterior.

Apply Intergrain UltraClear on arrival to treated timber prior to use of product. Failure to apply or maintain the coating as prescribed may result in damage not covered under the warranty.

Failure to apply or maintain the coating as prescribed may result in damage not covered under the warranty. Examples of damage displayed is cracking and splitting of timber, opening of timer joints, discoloration, breakage, lifting, flaking or breakdown of the coating.

Limited 1 year warranty unless otherwise stated. Warranty excludes moulding, cracking and splitting of timber, opening of timer joints, discoloration, breakage, lifting, flaking or breakdown of the coating.
