Care & Maintenance for Treated Timber

This timber has been treated to create a modern looking timber with less maintenance than regular timber. It has gone though a number of processes to seal and lock in the natural oils in the timber to reduce the maintenance required. It is then painted to appear like natural timber. The treated timber requires a protective coating to maintain its integrity, the finish and timber beneath. This is to be applied on arrival then maintained as prescribed.
Unlike regular timber that requires sanding and oiling every 3-4 months, our treated timber requires a seal to be applied on arrival then reapplied when patchiness is applied, or every 6-12 months depending on the usage and exposure of the timber. For everyday cleaning, simply wipe regularly with warm soapy water. Do not use any harsh chemicals on the coating.

Please ensure to use the recommended product that has been thoroughly tested. Other products may cause damage to paint or not provide the correct protection. Segals recommend Intergrain Exterior UltraClear satin finish available in store at Segals.

Application of Intergrain

Clean product with warm soapy water and allow to dry prior to any application.
Apply 3 coats of UltraClear Exterior with a quality brush. 4 or more coats will be required in extreme conditions such as full sun exposure, marine environments and in humid areas. Apply along the length of the board including exposed edges and end grain. Do not apply in temperatures above 35°C, below 10°C or if rain or dew is expected within four hours of application.
Conduct a routine 12 monthly maintenance inspection. Note: For extreme conditions, full exposure or marine environments, conduct a 6 monthly maintenance inspection. Best protection of the timber and ease of maintenance is ensured if UltraClear Exterior is recoated before deterioration of the coating and timber underneath occurs. First indication of the need for recoating will be observed as patchiness or thinning of the surface coating on edges and areas where insufficient product has been applied.
To recoat UltraClear Exterior which is in good condition, lightly sand, remove sanding dust and apply one coat of UltraClear Exterior.

Apply Intergrain UltraClear on arrival to treated timber prior to use of product. Failure to apply or maintain the coating as prescribed may result in damage not covered under the warranty.
